February 28.24 - What's YOUR Vision for YOUR life?

Have you ever found yourself sitting on the sidelines of your life, just watching everyone else move ahead with their life while you feel like you’re stuck, or lost and have no clue what’s next or even how to take a step forward?

On July 4, 2016, this is exactly where I found myself.

Not necessarily for the first time, but for the first time where I decided that something needed to change in my life.

Can you relate?

Everyone around me seemed to have it all together and my life was falling apart. I had just asked my husband to leave (for the first time) after nearly 20 years of marriage.

I remember feeling a sense of relief and freedom, followed by extreme emptiness because for the first time in my life I was on my own, truly, and I didn’t know who I was anymore.

In fact, I’m not sure I had ever really known who I was.

Somewhere along the journey of living my life, I had lost myself in people pleasing and performance orientation. I had stopped #loving my life and I had definitely stopped #living my life.

And then I started to ask myself:

  • What were MY hopes and dreams?
  • What were MY values and beliefs?
  • What DID I want to be when I “grew up”?

It became crystal clear to me at that moment.

I needed to make a vision board for myself.

I needed answers to these questions that I had been pondering for oh so long.

Do you have questions that you’ve been silently asking yourself about what’s next in your life?

So, I jumped in my car and went to the dollar store to get a sheet of poster board, some glue and some markers

I was giddy - like a little kid again!  It was like someone had given me permission to dream, to live the life I wanted.

I had these two pieces of blank white poster board (I needed two in case I made a mistake on one!), a couple of pairs of scissors, a black marker and my imagination.

I found some magazines and started flipping through them. I even went to my computer and looked for images that spoke to me and printed them off.

I laid out all of these images in front of me and then started to put them into ‘like’ piles. I started to see a pattern.

There were images related to my career goals and aspirations, my finances, my health, relationships and just plain old living life – having fun and adventure.

Et voila! Here is the finished product from my first vision board.

By the way, I now have a vision board for ALL areas of my life so that I can get even more clear and focused on what I want in each Life Category©.

My friend, let me ask you a couple of important questions:

  • What are YOUR hopes and dreams?
  • What are YOUR values and beliefs?
  • What DO YOU want next in your life?

What do YOU WANT? Not your spouse, your family, your friends or your colleagues – what do YOU WANT for your life?

If you’re ready to create a powerful vision for your life, I invite you to download How to Create a Vision Board tool so that you can started creating your very own vision board.

Don’t wait another minute to create a vision for the life you are meant to live!

P.S.  Remember when I said that I started to see themes in the images and sayings that I clipped when making my vision board?  I identified what I now call Life Categories© and they have become the anchor for me to examine different areas of happiness and satisfaction in my life.  If you’d like to dig deeper and explore this for your life, too, download a copy of my Happiness Indicator assessment and you can see how you’re doing in each of the five key Life Categories© of your life! https://loom.ly/_DZ93SE
